Raekwon - "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II"

I have been waiting for this album to come out for the past 3-4 years and finally it hits the shelves and a disappointment. I honestly have not really had the desire to listen to the whole album all the way through, but I think it could've been a smash had Rae included some songs and edited a few others out. Also if Nas showed up on the album it would've been crazy.

Things that were missing: Wu Gambinos part 2 and Nas.

Songs that should've been included:

Blue Eagles

Olympus

Baggage Handlers

The Masters (Rest in peace) ft. B-Real of Cypress Hill

Beauty (ft. Noreaga & Joell Ortiz)

Whips & Kicks (Ft. AZ)

Cocaine Blunts

Songs to keep (there are a few bangers on this album):

- Return of the North Star (ft. Papa Wu)
** an amazing intro track to the album **

- House of Flying Daggers (ft. Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, GZA)
- Cold Outside (ft. Ghostface Killah)
- Gihad (ft. Ghostface Killah)
- New Wu (ft. Ghostface Killah, Method Man)
- Ason Jones (ODB tribute)

- The Badlands (ft. Ghostface Killah) - European Bonus Track
- Walk Wit Me - iTunes Bonus Track

The rest of it was disposable. These tracks were going up against:
- Striving for Perfection
- Criminology
- Incarcerated Scarfaces
- Can It Be All So Simple
- Glaciers of Ice
- Verbal Intercourse
- Ice Cream
- Wu-Gambinos
- Heaven and Hell

and all the other tracks on this album straight ILL... not a single wack track.

iPhone: Apple Preview of OS 3.0

Engadget is reporting that Apple will be hosting a media event on Tuesday, March 17th to demonstrate iPhone OS 3.0, the next major upgrade to the iPhone operating system. Apple will reportedly also provide details on a new iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) to aid developers in creating applications for the new operating system.

iPhone: Fandango App

Man... what a great fucking idea! I can't believe they didn't have this earlier.

I actually really needed this on Valentine's day weekend. I was trying to watch Coraline in 3D and had to settle for Taken. *shudders*

More info on that here

(fandango is a service where you can buy movie tickets online and pick them up at the theater... impress your dates with a few clicks on your iPhone)

iPhone: Copy and Paste on OS 3.0

Wow. Dude is right: how the fuck did apple wait till 3.0 to have a copy and paste function?!?!?

Anyway. I can't believe there are so many people excited to see these dorky duchebags talk about technology. It's like the Wayne's World of G4... and the people are loving it. I thought SXSW was about music... apparently I was wrong.

Also announced: MMS and video recording would not be present in this release nor the ability to run background applications.

Video: Nike SB Team in Mexico, Chile, Hong Kong, China

Video is kinda cool, but what I thought was dope was the track they're using in the background. Cantonese rap music is (slowly) getting better!

TV: The Simpsons in HD

What else can I say, but this shit is the WACKNESS.

Forget HD. Just keep it the way it was. If it ain't broke don't fix. Invest in new writers, not new animation techniques - cause the last 3 HD episodes have sucked ass.

Don't make me start watching the Family Guy, Mr. Greoning. You're on thin ice. I've defended your show for years now and have resisted watching or enjoying any Family Guy.

Throwback: Slum Village - "Selfish"

Hmm, stopped over at Drizzy's blog today, and noticed that he posted a throwback Slum Village track. I was never a huge fan, but boy did I love this one. I'm pretty sure Justin Bua did the artwork on the video Drake posted.

Watch the music video here. Download the album "Detroit Deli: Taste of Detroit" here.

I've been bumping the new So Far Gone mixtape a lately, download download it here.

iPhone: The End of Fat Fingers

The one thing I dislike about the iPhone is that I hate how I can't text and drive at the same time.

More specifically I tend to get 'fat finger syndrome' where my fingers often hit the wrong keys on the digital keyboard. This video shows how someone figured out how to hook up his wireless apple keyboard to the iPhone.

I want to learn how to do this now!

iPhone: Depeche Mode Pass

I heard the new DM song last night on KROQ and I must say "Wrong" sounds amazing.

So iTunes is trying to do this pass thing w/ Depeche Mode, and you can read more about that here.

But really who cares, 'cause a kid like me who knows how to work a computer will end up getting the album for free before the release date. I already got all the stuff on the iTunes digital single.

You can too.

iPhone: Watchmen App

I heard the movie blows and you can see the blue guy's weiner throughout the film.

...but regardless a few days ago (before finding the above video) I downloaded the Watchmen app anyway. I didn't download it because I wanted to watch the movie but because I was interested of what could possibly be on an app for a movie. I opened it, was sent to a link for the preview and was bored after 5 minutes and felt like such a tool for even downloading it. It's like Sean, Brian and all the other ad kids tell me: people don't like knowing they're being sold to... but if that's so true, then why is this in the top 25 free apps of the week?

iPhone: Rumors of iPhone Pro for June 2009 release

Damn, I just got one of these too.

Apparently they're lowering the price of the 3G phone by $99 and introducing a new one in June. More details here.

iPhone: iPhone VS cell phone past (video)

Ever wonder what would happen if your iPhone reunited with all the models of cell phone past?

iPhone: 31 Fart Apps

I remember one of the first weeks of class Sean mentioned that the iFart app was one of the most popular applications for the iPhone. Apparently there are now 31 different apps - all compiled onto one video.

iPhone: Manage Your DirecTV

How cool would it be to be able to control your DVR thru your iPhone? Be able to change your settings and record your favorite shows from anywhere without your remote!

According to this post, it's on the horizon... now if only I still had DirecTV :(

iPhone: Using iTunes to Organize Your Apps

Cool concept video found on Gizmodo on how to organize your iPhone apps using iTunes. Which is a great idea because of how disposable some applications are - esp. the free ones. You can sort apps based upon usage, category and more!

I think this is a great idea, because it would encourage people to connect the phone to their computer and sync it more often!

Music Video: Lil Wayne "Prom Queen" x KoRn

Yes, I'm aware this video is probrably a few weeks old, the song's been out for quite a while. I'm not a huge fan of Lil Wayne doing a rock record and this song bugged the hell out of me the first few times I heard it, but if you look at it in the vein of a rapper trying to do a pop rock song, it after a few listens it really isn't all that bad.

Anyways, but that's coming from someone who was a huge rap metal fan in the late 90's.

But why I really posted is because while watching the video, I noticed that the members of KoRn are in the video. Again, two of my favorite things put together - even on a song I would never admit to enjoying. I wasn't sure who's playing guitar in the video (most likely Munky, as Head is no longer in the band), but Fieldy (who sure got raggier looking) is definately on bass and Jonathan Davis is definately on the drums.

I stopped being a KoRn fan about 10 years ago, but it's nice to see them still involved in today's popular music.

Video: Prince Paul - "Beautiful Night (Manic Psychopath)"

I was doing some homework relating to music, so I was going thru my old mix CD's for the tracklistings. I can't remember half the names to the songs, so a lot of my time is spent typing in the lyrics to google. I was typing the lyrics to this song, and apparently a fan made a video of it! I'd always wanted to make one for this song.

Listen to the lyrics... kinda dark, but incredibly funny. That's Prince Paul for you.

I tend to always include this tracks on mixes, it's just that brilliant!

I've always had an affinity for all things dark and cryptic... especially in rap music. The whole horror-core stuff facinates me, cause it's so rare in hip-hop that I can really only count a handful of artists that fit in this category.

Movie: Higher Learning

"Without struggle there is no progress."
- Frederick Douglas

I heard this quote today after finally finishing Higher Learning over my Hungry Man lunch. Man, I miss the 90's.

Video: Colossal Media

Colossal Media featured on Japanese TV Show-"The Real" from Colossal Media on Vimeo.

This video reminded me of probrably the most inspirational day of my middle school career. In 7th grade, for some reason we had this dude come in to talk about his career and he did pretty much the exact same thing those dudes do in the video, but in Toronto. He was talking about how he started off really small, just doing it for fun - and then started to get crazy comissions from really big companies.

His presentation was great: he basically just showed us a few slides of his work and told us that school was completely useless and that we should just do whatever we find fun with our lives. To demonstrate in case our teachers didn't agree, he walked over to the window and turned on the alarm to his brand new Jaguar.

He noticed my sketchbook on my desk after the presentation and he told me that I should never stop trying to piss the world off. (rather childish, but in my book at the time there was a siloette of my middle finger I'd spent two weeks filling in w/ read and blue ball point pen)

Commercial: Delete Cyberbullying

I was trying to watch the rest of Higher Learning today over on Hulu, and before the movie came on this ad came on. Despite being completely hilarious and awesome... are people overtly more sensitive these days? Cyberbullying?!?! Seriously?!?!?

Maybe Patty's broke ass dad should get a job, or a new sweater.

Dope: Lego Porn

I thought this was so clever and tastefully done.

Dilla Month: "Time: Donut of the Heart"

Three years after the death of legendary producer... blah blah blah.

He's great, I just don't think I really need to write an intro. You should already know... apparently Shepard Fairey does too.

Anyway, I didn't think I'd write a post on this subject, 'cause there are so many other posts and parties going on honoring his memory this month, but I found these two videos today on this post that relate to my favorite beat off Donuts: "Time: Donut of the Heart"

If you've been lucky enough to have gotten a mix CD from me in the past 3 years this song was probrably on it. Today while poking around on Pitchfork, and reading about the new Dilla compilation coming out, I found this blog. It's 'Dilla' month and since there were 31 tracks on Donuts, every day a few bloggers break down each song SUPER nerd steez in: what it means to them, the history of the track, the sample, etc.

Here's what I found out:

1. I never knew where the break for this song came from.

Jackson Five - "All I Do is Think of You"

2. I never knew this song was about sex... I mean I guess I could see it now with all the moan-y vocal samples, but I just thought it was a great touch and a great way to pull the song together.

3. I never noticed how often he switches up the tempo in the song. Well I mean of course I did, but I never knew it was such a 'revolutionary' thing to do in a song.

4. I never thought a Korean indie band would cover this song!?! Brilliant!

Bulssazo - "Time: Donut of the Heart"

They also do a shoegaze cover/remix of Common - "The Light" (produced by J.Dilla). Peep the myspace.

RIP to James Yancey.

Sneakers: Converse x Ozzy Osbourne

I love metal... although I don't really follow the genre so tightly anymore, but there was a time in my life, and I suppose it still exists to where I find comfort in the sound of crushing guitars, double bass pedal drumming, dark lyrics and primal screaming.

It's prolly as blasphemous as saying that I love hip-hop but I'm not a big 2pac or Tribe fan... but I'm not a huge Ozzy fan. Crazy Train was dope, but although not a hardcore fan I do enjoy quite a bit of the Sabbath stuff, esp this song.

Anyway, I was poking around on Hypebeast today looking for some inspiration on what the latest trends on t-shirts are for my Type 3 midterm, but I found these posted up. Pretty cool idea, making a pair of Jack Purcells look like a straight jacket. I hardly find anything on Hypebeast anymore that excites me, but I'd totally rock these! Same with these (Black Sabbath Collection released back in October). The black leather, or the black on black w/ purple trim is more my style, but anyway great job Converse!

Check them out here.

I'm normally not a big fan of Converse 'cause everyone wears them and they're pretty low, so I end up looking shorter when I rock mine, as opposed to the one and a half inch lift my Wally's give me. Now you know my secret.

Also, on a claim to authenticity: I got to see all the original members of Black Sabbath reunited for their 'final tour' at Ozzfest '99!

iPhone: Marvel Comics

Fellow comic book nerd alert: at this years New York Comic Con, Marvel comics announced their intention to sell “In-Motion” comic books through the iTunes Store. According to Marvel, the In-Motion comics go beyond the paperback books with animated panels and voice-over work from popular actors.

Sounds interesting, although I'm really more of an 'alternative' or indie comics kinda guy... the last graphic novel I really enjoyed was this one.

iPhone: Wobble Application

So apparently the good people over at the App store said no to the iBoob application, but this app is pretty much the exact same thing, except it does not come pre-loaded w/ images for your wobbling pleasure.

Check the video on how it works... narrated by Australian dudes. More here.

iPhone: whatthefont application

Wow. Finally a useful application for all my fellow graphic designing iPhone owners!

More on it here.

Best episode of the season so far! I think this one was directed by Michel Gondry.

No Fat Chicks

A doodle I did today in Type 3.

Video - Bootsy Colllins Bass Solo

Random find today, but one of the G.O.A.T. bass players ripping it up. In my opinion, he's no doubt one of the godfathers of funk. Bootsy was a key player when collaborating with James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic during the funk explosion.

YouTube Beer Bottle Dominoes

Not sure if this was really done in one shot... but pretty cool.

Com Design 2 is kinda boring at the moment. I need to sleep and wake up before the Scion Next starts.

NEW Cage Track - "Nothing Left to Say"

I think God may have read my blog sometime in the past few months... 'cause I was happy as hell to find this today!

I'm still in class so I haven't had time to actually listen to it yet... so if it sucks at least it was free!

Check out the myspace to see the new cover art done none other than Alex Pardee.

Music Video: Asher Roth - "I Love College"

I know this song is mad old, but I'm so glad the video for this is finally out. It does it's job perfectly and reminds me of my time at UCI... even tho I'm technically an undergrad again in 'college' now, Art Center is another world and for better or worse (well, better professionally) I'm at another point in my life, but watching this video just brought me back to a fun, blurry and stress-free time in my life that I still hold very dear to my heart.

I've never really admitted it on this blog, but Frat life was and always will be awesome - even if you're an anti, non-conformist artsy dude you can't deny it. I was cracking up when I saw the two dudes chugging the gallon of milk. *Tear*

However, what would've made this video amazing is if they did something in the video to pay homage to the brilliant sample used in the song.

Oh and Asher CAN spit. I was doubtful at first, then I heard the mixtape.

Tap Defense

Ever since Monica suggested this to me (via twitter), I've been pretty obsessed with this game - to the point where I want to delete this off my iPhone cause must sadly admit that I do get a bit too emotionally invested in this game!

Best part about it: it's free and fun.

I'm not sure what the exact premise is, but you're basically creating towers to slay demons, locusts, monsters and occasionally the devil himself to gain acceptance into heaven. It's essentially a really dumbed down version of Command & Conquor or War Craft.

e-books, Amazon's Kindle and the iPhone?

I think this would be a great idea for an app on the iPhone. It's bascially an app that would do the same thing as Amazon's Kindle. It can download books and is basically what is known as an 'electronic book.'

I have to admit I am guilty of poking around on my iPhone while in the toilet sometimes - in place of some serious magazine reading sessions... but instead how about engulfing my head in some classic Steinback, reading up on Nitzche or a dirty romance novel while I'm dropping off the browns?

I mean, I've 'heard' He's Just Not That Into You is EPIC!

And imagine if it could read audio books to you... I'd be in.

Porn Stars and Twitter

Before even reading this article, since purchasing an iPhone two weeks ago, I honestly can't get enough of Twitter these days. When I have nothing to do or are passing thru the halls alone, I love the fact that by whipping out my iPhone and making a few finger movements I can read what some of my friends, "followers" and people I am "following" are up to.

With the iPhone, applications like Twitfon and Twitteriffic make it really easy to post these under 140 character mini-blog posts as often as you like. Before obtaining the iPhone, I did not like the application as much. I only made updates on my laptop and by the time I sat down, logged onto my account and thought about my post, something about having to remember what I wanted to write an hour ago just seemed to lack authenticity. With a device like my iPhone, it takes less than a minute to post a thought or an idea.

I've also noticed that a lot of celebreties are also using twitter, which is a great way to broadcast yourself and to keep up with your fans. Following suit, Rappers and Bloggers alike have also taken advantage of this program... so I suppose it was no surprise to find out that many famous porn stars are doing the exact same thing.

In terms of porn I think this is going to be revolutionary, because porn is such a socially taboo subject, that this will allow porn fanatics to quietly and quickly take a glimpse into the lives of their favorite starlets at their leisure with complete privacy anywhere on the planet where they get cellphone reception.

I find this especially interesting because I feel that since porn is regarded as so hush-hush and taboo that they are an industry that constantly needs to embrace new technology and the DIY ethic (ie: the internet) to keep their anonymous legions of fans 'stimulated'.

On a more personal note, I have not subscribed to any particular porn stars, but if you'd like to subscribe to my feed it's HONORROLLER.

Cage at somedude's house??

I NEED this album to come out already.

but i have to settle for these clips on youtube posted on myspace.

I've been fiending for this album since 2005's "Hell's Winter". I need that lyrically dark and twisted white backpacker rap music back into my life... now.

Lucha Vavoom

The video isn't really a good seller, but check out the website. Lucha Vavoom is oging on tonight in in Anahiem.

A perfect event for a first date: Mexican Wrestlers and Mexican Strippers... too bad we've got plans for Ali's officially becoming an American celebration tonight.

Rosenburg Radio x Flight of the Conchords

Even tho it's really short, it was awesome seeing this on NahRight today. I just love it when two of my favorite things get together. :)

Twitter

I've become quite addicted to this... I don't even know what to call it. An online social networking application?

It's similar to Facebook's "USERNAME is:________" function at the top of your home page, but more to the point... 140 characters max to update on how you're doing or just to write whatever you feel like telling your 'followers'. Basically sending all your friends a small rss feed of what you happen to be doing.

Especially now with the iPhone, it's easier than ever to make updates.

The name is HonorRoller, if you want to be one my 'followers'

You can also read my updates on my blog (to the right of the browser, near the top).

Korean Taco Truck

Apparently there's a buzz on these Korean taco trucks...

I missed it when it was in Rosemead last night but I hope to catch it when it comes around again next week. Check them out on Twitter for more accurate and up-to-date info.

When the hell did I become a foodie? I suppose the older you get, the more exciting it becomes to try new foods.

new iphone

So after the last lecture in my Scion Next class I realized that I am incredibly poorly informed when it comes to new technology.

So to change all that, I decided to step in to the $399.00 + other fee Delorian and boldy go into the future by purchasing an iPhone.

Pretty cool so far... it's basically like an extention of my Macbook Pro, except I find that I'm mostly spending all my time playing Sudoku on it.

I'm surprisingly pretty good at Sudoku. Challenge me, I dare you.

Anyone have any suggestions on apps for this bad boy?
(preferably free ones)

Y B Box

I love it when I see folks from the motherland embracing hip-hop culture.

No matter how wack or how cool - this in my opinion, is on the cooler side of things.

I am making a promise to myself today that I will really try to make a post every day. Especially one on something graphic design/art related. I notice for someone who is a design student I usually am the last to know about anything design related... I'm desperately trying to become a designer groupie basically so I can swallow the visual juices of the great and excreet my own dose of funky goodness.

Found this on the DVD included in the latest issue of IDN (a dope magazine based out of Hong Kong).

RockNRolla

I really wanted to see this film when it first came out, but due to the movie not being widely released, school and the lack of free time, I just never got the chance. Thank god for dollar theaters in the ghetto parts of Southern California.

For $3 and skipping out on a bit of the intro, my boy Doug and I saw this film a few weeks back.

I can't say it really sucked, 'cause it was barable, but I think Guy Ritchie's formula is getting a little too predictable.

1. Dudes with British accents
2. Dudes with other Euro accents
3. A series of misunderstandings and longing for prized objects
4. Violence mixed with various forms of abnormal torture

My main complaint with the movie is that for a film called RockNRolla, there wasn't actually too much rocking in the film.

Sad when the directors you like flop twice in a row.

Atleast it was only $3.00.

Air Jordan 2009

Seriously, how could you even call these Jordans?
