I am a huge fan of the Clark Wallabee... ever since my Senior Year of high school, back when I couldn't afford the real things and settled for the clones.

I thought the Ipath Cats were the dopest skate shoes ever. When I found out they were inspired from the Clarks, it was over. When I found out the Wu was all about them... it was really over.


Anyway, it's a shame these look kinda wack. I love the idea of an all silver or all gold shoe (i own a pair of New Balances that are all silver)... especially on a wally, but dude fucked these ones up. Shoulda added a black soul, and what's the deal w/ the black patent leather details? just make the top ALL gold or ALL silver.They'd be so much iller if they looked like this:

Upper Playground Stan Smiths

I fucking love Upper Playground. I've been a fan for years now, mainly because they've always supported my favorite artists and continue to rep SF pretty hard.

Unfortunately, most of their product (although sold at a very fair price) usually isn't that dope. They'll release like a collection of 100 tees, but only 3 dope designs. Too much Sam Flores shit... they're also starting to overkill on Jeremy Fish.

Anyway, once again they took a few of my favorite things and made a mediocre product outta it. I love the Stan Smith. I used to skate a pair of these in high school, and i think they're just really simple and clean looking. I have a friend who's dad only rocks these... his garage has like 20 pairs - all classic green and white.

- a very ordinary looking sneaker, but it's got the WEATHERMEN logo on it, so.... that almost makes me want to buy it. I'm not really a fan of Aesop Rock, but the Weathermen are my favorite indie rap crew (Cage, Aesop Rock, Yak Ballz, El-P, Camu Tao(RIP), Tame One).

TR2N, DEATHTRACK/DEATH RACE, and my childhood

Back in a time before windows there was something called dos... anyway. I was sent to computer camp as a kid and the only thing aside from the inside edge on living a more reclusive lifestyle in was a copy of this game by activision called "death track". Good ol 1989.

Anyway, the reason I am writing about this movie is that I saw a preview for a movie with a similar plot as the game. It's called Death Race and it stars jason Statham. I don't particularly care for the story itself, I'm just amazed they're making a movie out of such an old video game. They usually go with what's hot at the moment, not one that's almost 20 years old.

Speaking of 20 year olds, they're actually going to be doing another tron movie. always reminds me of the motorcycle part in the first movie.

It's like everthing i thought was cool during my childhood is being resold to me.

The Game Name Drops Cobain.. seriously

Dude. I mean, just like anyone else who was ever a pissed off youth I was a big fan of Nirvana. I'm not really a big fan of the Game. He holds it down for the west coast - yes... but to be perfectly honest - in the realm of mainstream hip-hop there isn't much really going on out here right now. I like some of the name dropping cause it's nostalgic, but dude can't write a single song without it!!

I had to stop this song 40 seconds in because he name drops Cobain. In my room alone, I was like "SERIOUSLY?!?" I dunno, the man's name is still pretty sacred to me and it really offends me when people do covers or when rappers make references... the only thing they ever seem to say about Kurt is how he shot himself... there's just so much more.

I dunno. one line from a rap song got me going. Here it is if you want to take a listen.

I heard a track yesterday on the radio. I dunno it's odd, I find myself incredibly out of loop with rock music these days. It's always either something from the 90's or a typical kroq band, and then when I do hear something new on that station it's usually a band i think sounds like garbage, ie: the FLOBOTS... seriously "my handle bars"? "i kissed a girl"

such bullshit... what are kids listening to these days?

hopefully this ep's gonna be a breath of fresh air. I finally had a chance to hear his pre-rage band Inside Out a few months back... that album is pure crap. Thank god for Tom and the boys. I'm optimistic.

Captain Planet: Originator of "Going Green"

So it's like 5am, can't sleep, trying to work on some skate deck graphcis... chatting w/ my pal Bridgette and she brought up the point that Captain Planet was probrably the originator to the modern day 'Go Green' enthusiast.

Batman

Saw the new Batman tonight. I thought it was okay. Not quite as good as the last one... story was a little confusing and the movie was really long - however Heath Legder did an amazing job as the Joker, which made the movie worth my $10.75 (considering that this one hasn't come out on cam yet).

I can still remember when my mum took me to see the Michael Keaton version of Batman about 19 years ago.

My favorite part was when the Joker says "Do you want to see a magic trick? I'm going to make this pencil disappear."

Rest in peace Heath Ledger (1979 - 2008).

A few discrepancies tho: they said this is an EPK (electronic press kit) but it's not really promoting a new album. All the tracks are off "Murray's Revenge", which came out over 2 years ago.

Seriously, what's up with all the major labels? Why sign the hottest underground guys and keep them on the shelf. When am I ever gonna hear Saigon's "The Greatest Story Never Told"? Seems like a better idea to keep things indie these days... unless you got a few bangin' ringtones on your album.

But I think Murs really did earn his stripes as the hardest working rapper in the game - for one reason: there's never been a touring underground hip hop festival until Paid Dues came along. If and when his album does drop I really hope it doesn't sound like this.

Faires Wear Brikenstocks

Been fucking w/ painter a bit lately... one of my goals for the summer. Been drawing like a madman, mainly because I'm broke and I'm trying to take advantage of Art Center's free 4 day a week workshops. Here's one of my first finished compositions.

The Wackness

Speaking of throwbacks... I really want to see this. It's showing at the LA Film Fest, but I'm not sure I wanna drop $12 and spend an hour waiting in the standby line to see it. Although I like the premise of it: a teenage love story that takes in NYC circa 1994. The soundtrack is ill too cause '94 was my favorite period of music (even tho I was in the 5th grade, I'm constantly listening and discovering more classic albums from this era). Hip-Hop and rock were at their all-time high's: Golden Age and Grunge/Alternative at their peaks.

They even got one of my all time favorites on here: Raekwon - "Heaven & Hell" (ft. Ghostface Killah)



On a sidenote, I went to go watch The Hulk today. Not bad, since I was expecting nothing - but anyway I was getting a soda and I overheard a convesation that made me feel really old:

Asian Female Movie Theater Employee: Your name reminds me of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Have you seen it? It's the one where they time travel. It's got Keanu Reeves and it was made in the 80's?

Dirty Hands: The Life and Crimes of David Choe

I finally got the chance to see this movie tonight at it's world premier at the LA Film festival. The trailer for this came out in 2006 and I've been patiently waiting since.

The film shows again tomorrow (Sunday) and Thursday.

It's been a pretty inspirational and awesome week: Dodgeball win, drawing workshops, the RZA and David Choe. Hopefully some beach action tomorrow. G'nite!

JVC El Kameleon

I had no idea they sold em like this. The sexiest commercial I've ever seen for a car CD/DVD player (above).

I'm not particularly a big technology nerd. I don't get excited over new iPhones, Plasma TV's or the latest hot gadgets. I'm still rocking an old iPod from 2004 and the only modification I've done to my Scion is adding a wire to connect my iPod - and that's only because my stock cd player has my February 2004 mix stuck in it.

People find it odd that I don't seem to care about trends in electronics since I work as a graphic designer, but I'm more of a whatever does the job type guy. For better or worse I am however a pretty big hip-hop nerd. So I was over at my favorite news site and clicked on the link for a Spin magazine article on Nas and in the ad coluum, there it was. Check it out (right side).

I found this article pretty hilarious.

No matter what anyone says or how wack the next 10 Wu Tang or Bob Digi albums may be, I still will forever love the RZA and hold him high as one of my heroes. I even wrote an essay about him for my application to Art Center.

Lil Wayne - "I Feel Like Dying"

This has been my favorite song for the past two weeks. I thought I'd share it because it took me completely off guard and makes me like Wayne even more. For a more commercial southern rapper, this song is incredibly poetic while being very dark and deep. It's obviously about drugs ... but when did (black) rappers get so emotional about them?!?! I didn't know Wayne spit about this type of 'white-boy' stuff. In terms of subject matter, it reminds me of something I'd hear on a Cage, Necro or even Eminem track... very impressive!


Been bumping the Carter III a lot too... best track by far is "Mr. Carter" ft. Jay-Z, although the one about sleeping with female police officers is classic too.

Until hearing the Drought 3, I was honestly never a fan. I tried listening to The Carter 1 & 2, and I'm still not feeling those Manny Fresh/southern styled midi keyboard synth beats.

I heard about this because apparently he's being sued by the singer of the band Karma for not clearing the sample. Which is pretty stupid because this is a mixtape track and was never officially released. The controversy is that he still preforms it live. More on that here.
